The Earth's natural treasures, form coral reefs to snow-topped mountains, are spectacular sights and some of the world's most famous places. But people have built some amazing additions to landscape.

All over the world there are incredible buildings and structures; ancient cities that remind us of past glories; places of worship and other sacred sites; beautiful palaces and forbidding castles; towers, dams, and bridges that make the mordern world work. Each of these places is a great human achievement.

In the city of Alexandria in Egypt during the second century B.C..engineer Philo wrote a book called on the seven wonders. He listed seven buldings that made people of his time stand and stare in astonishment. Only one of those seven wonders survives- the great pyramid. But after years of research Archaeologist and historian discovered another similar wonder called the Hanging gardens of Babylon.

Archaeologist uncover the objects that early people made, the remains of the food they ate, and often the buildings they lived in. But because many prehistoric peoples did not write, very little is known about their thoughts and beliefs. Scientists can built up a picture of early civilizations from clues that have survived. But often, these clues remain unsolved mysteries.

Throughout history, people have built temples and shrines to worship and honor the gods they believe in. Many put up statues, made animals sacrifices, or offered food or precious objects to their gods. Some invaders decorated existing temples in the style of their own religion. Each faith has a different way of making its places of worship special.

People throughout history have built special places where they can gather to watch sporting events and enjoy entertainment. Some architects have been able to design unusual structures for special leisure activities.

World heritage site are places that are considered so unusual that they have been given special protection. These sites can be protected against such things as erosion and damages done by tourists. Some heritage sites, such as the PashupatiNath, Nepal, are the places of historical beauty. Others, such as Great barrier Reef, Pyramids and Tikal at Guatemala, have same important historical and cultural values too.
